-They mess up Jenova's whole naming scheme through a questionable localisation choi---ooooh wait.

(Seriously, though, "Jenova Dreamweaver"? Wha? It's not even a translation of the Japanese! Even if they were intent on localising the illusionist element specifically, "Jenova Conception" is, like, right there as the perfect wordplay.)

The new Batman trailer makes me want something like that for FF7R Part 2's trailer.

Cloud slowly walking through the dark streets, everything is very moody with guitar in the background, then we hear the voice of Genesis. 'Let's play a game.'

Cloud sees graffiti sprayed on the wall in front of him:

Fades out to a black screen, then we see 'Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 will arrive in 2025.....'

The plot is able to go any place, at this point. Even if Genesis is a mastermind or woke up in relation to some sort of threat, Sephiroth still hasn't abandoned his arrogance. The Edge of Creation Sephiroth is more humble than he typically is, but he's still arrogant, since he views death as a sort of humiliation and wants to avoid death because of that (According to "On a Way to A Smile?" or one of the compiliation books). Until Sephiroth can get over his arrogance and coldness, he's always going to be the villain or have his own agenda, imo.

Someone brought up this idea in the Discord... Skip the Kalm Flashback of Nibelehim entirely.

As in... don't shorten it, don't summarize it, just... never bring it up at Kalm.

They could have a simplified version of the map just for the highwind flying sequences. Not sure they'd go for that though. HAS there been a game that has that sort of mechanic on modern hardware?

Creating a scale mesh of an overworld with a tiny airship vehicle to control hasn’t become any more difficult since 2000, why in the sweet hell did they huck it? Ironically, in the “data collection” age of video games, they’d probably be surprised by “hours spent flying around in circles” if they implemented something like this in a modern FF, and it would become a series staple again.

The Regalia was a step in the right direction, but that was a flying car in the regular zone, not a proper airship with rooms on a scaled world map. Abstraction isn’t the devil, Square Enix.

It's kind of amusing that games 20+ years ago could get away with things modern ones can't because it was easier to suspend your disbelief when everyone was legos.

I think the Highwind will be left in-tact though, the remake has gone far out of its way so far to include most aspects of the game so far; they know the airship was an iconic part of the original, they won't ditch it. I think that's the one big plus or remaking old games, they have to actively try to achieve what the original could do in abstraction in a high-detail space rather than just skimping on it like they could in an original game.

The one thing I fear for the Highwind is that, in the past 10 years or so, vehicle sections have become my most hated segments in games that aren't based around vehicle mechanics.

Like... The Mako from Mass Effect was severely traumatizing guys. While things have gotten better since then, nothing has come along that has help mend the wounds it left on my soul :(

They could easily do it like the Setzer in Type-0 and even make that form of transportation have a unique gimmick to it. That would honestly be the best if they didn't want to make the whole Highwind to scale of one continuous open-world field. I think that would be extremely difficult even with the best hardware.

The world of Eos in FFXV was a lot smaller and a flying car is not the same as a huge ass airship. :monster:

Shoutout to Dissidia Duodecim for featuring a world map that plays the FF7 Main Theme when you run around as Cloud. C'mon SE, don't let that be the closest we get to the OG.

I often fantasize about a modern-day world map. Beyond the intricate detail that's expected, imagine if they implemented weather systems and a day/night cycle. And these systems could affect the battle area you warp to when you collide with a monster (no random encounters please). And you could see monsters in their natural habitat in the distance, maybe doing cool stuff like a Land Worm emerging from the desert surface.

Abstraction isn’t the devil, Square Enix.

Preach it.

I think the modern Dragon Quest games do it pretty well. When you fly in the air, it's on another map completely different than the one you usually traverse on and there is no need to render most of the details on the map outside of the obvious things like landmarks.

As far as Chocobos are concerned, I 100% expect to be able to ride them for the Mythril Swamp. It would be a damn shame if this were to happen:

Cloud: "There's a chocobo! We can capture this to ride across the swamp!"
*fight ensues*
*loading*
Aerith: "Phew! I'm so glad we were able to get past that giant snake!"
Red XIII: "That was even bigger than Barret himself!"
Barret: "I'm getting real tired of your fat-shaming shit you damn cat-dog thing!"

Have Part 2 be a retelling of the Loveless poem, narrated by Genesis.

Have Genesis join the party.

Have Genesis in the game.

Have time travel in it. No, I do not want a time travelling Sephiroth... I really hope there's a non-time-travel explanation for everything in part 1.

Be more than 3-4 parts in the end. I'm not getting any younger...

Skip any of the towns from the original game.

Have another sewers section.
