I know Nomura hasn't done the artwork here but my first thought was 'Oh fuck, is that a zip?' (Yeah, I know Turk uniforms have zips so :p)

Who is that anyway? I don't think I like him. :shifty: If he's meant to be some new Turk then hes annoying for violating uniform in a way that upstages Reno (studded lapels? Really?) If he's meant to be some other character, he's still dressed like a chump.

Also, this doesn't bode well if they're putting this guy on the cover does it? Does this mean this guy is going to be a big part of the story?

I haven't yet thrown my rattle out of the pram, but it is in my hand and my arm is held aloft.....

He must be either Evan or Kyrie (or is Kyrie a girl's name?), one of the two detectives. Looks like he could be Cloud's brother... Anyway, I recommend a new character that has a bit of personality in his dress-code. I kind of like the look.

I'm guessing that's Evan, one of the people from the Mireille Dectective Agency. He is one of the main people the novel is about, since his name the first mentioned :awesome: Evan and Kyrie are the main characters, which the Turks (and Cloud&Tifa and others) being involved in their story?

Even though the novel has 'Turks' in the title.

He looks like he could be Rufus' long lost brother. Just sayin'.

Yeah, this is what I suspected. Its not really going to be about the Turks at all. I don't know why I bother even thinking SE could come up with something I'd want anymore.

I don't have anything against new characters, I'm just sick of them pulling focus from the characters I'm actually interested in. Its the exact kind of shit you see in the worst fanfiction, and its annoying. If it wasn't official it would be marysueism in the extreme.

I guess this Kyrie person will probably appear on the back cover eh? :sigh: I know I can't judge a book by its cover, but I just find this discouraging. Who knows....maybe it will be an interesting story..... :/

Another one besides Lazard? That ol' goat President Shinra really put it about didn't he?

^THIS x10. I'm so thoroughly annoyed with constant new characters. I used to be able to know every character in the franchise until BC/CC/AC/DC happened. BC especially. So many damn turks. Who cares?! The only Turks fans really care about are from the OG.

I just...Stop with all these characters, SE. They're even starting to look the same. :sigh:

For once I am not overly skeptical. But that's probably because detectives make me think of the unused "Detective Joe", from Hironobu's earliest story sketches of FFVII, so my brain projects that this thing might have the FFVII spirit to it. :monster:
I'll remain cautious though.

Edit: I have to admit, I am kind of anxiously waiting for Square to do a major screw up with FFVII again, just so I can have an excuse to use this video. :awesome:

I'm kind of guessing it'll be a "Turks seen through the eyes of others" kind of story. Like showing them from the point of view of people who don't know them as well as characters like Cloud/Tifa would know them?

The young staff of the Mireille Detective Agency advertise their business with a particular gimmick: “We Read the Lifestream”

A brand-new full-length novel focusing on the Turks, as they aim to restore their company in order to repay a debt to the world, and a group of young people living in a world in ruins.

I need to proof-read better :sadpanda:

Y'see I think that would kind of suck, because presumably if these people know less about the Turks than Cloud and Tifa do, less than we do even. I can't imagine its going to reveal much of interest. I could be wrong though.

Yeah, that sounds a lot more promising I guess.

As much as I love the Turks though, Shinra really need to fuck right off. Can you imagine any other dictatorship saying 'we need to restore our power for the good of the world' ?

I'm quite dissapointed that the Turks continued to serve Shinra. I would have prefered it if they just did their own thing. Their continuing loyalty to Rufus just makes them seem a bit pathetic...like the Hyenas in the Lion King or something. No sir, I don't like it. :nah:

I would like it if we heard some about the public's opinion on Cloud & Tifa. Some must know about Cloud & Tifa's role in the "Jenova Wars", so does that make the general public fear them and avoid Seventh Heaven? Does any of them know that Cloud set the bomb that destroyed the No.1 Reactor and caused several casualties? Has a relative or friend to any of these casualties ever walked up Cloud or Tifa and threatened to kill them?

The story summary says that this is "2 years since that fateful day". What fateful day? Meteor almost colliding with the planet? Cloud defeating Sephiroth in Midgar? Omega Weapon entering orbit? Depending on which fateful "day" is referred to, the citizens of Edge may have varying opinions about the heroes of the planet. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY THINK!

'That day' tends to refer to the finale of FFVII (Meteor destroying Midgar/Holy-Lifestream saving everyone) in the context of the Compilation. Not sure how I feel about another story set around the same time as AC and OTWTAS, to be honest.

Yeah, I'd rather see something post DoC, so we can at least see where the characters are up to.

Indeed. I know this is what the "fateful day" is usually a reference to, but I hope to the gods that the fateful day has changed to the day when the cure for Geostigma was found. A story that takes place closer to when Denzel reveals his past to Reeve (4 years after OG, 1 year after DoC) would be much more to my liking.

If it is AC's era, I'm hoping it's at least the post-AC year between it and DC so we aren't going through Cloud moping around again. Something past DC would be nicer, though.

I'm thinking it's meant less directly than that -- not so much that they see restoring the company as for the good of the world, but that in order to repay the debt to the world, they first must restore the company. Something like that.

I kind of do. It gives them something from their old life to hang onto.

I'd prefer it to be post-DC as well, but maybe it will at least be post-AC.

I really couldn't handle any more of Cloud walking around cutting himself.

I'm eh on the cover.

and I just want to know what happened to Cissnei dammit. :sadpanda:

She got with Shelke to fulfill my loli fantasies.

But either way it is bullshit. They can just help in their capacity as human beings, and if anything the Shinra name is irrevocably tainted. Why must the company be restored in order to help people? It's nonsense. If anything it would be easier to help if they changed their names and stopped wearing Turk uniforms. Restoring the company serves no purpose except for Rufus to claw back some power.

No way The Turks eh pretty cool guys, they don't need anything to hang on and doesn't afraid of anything!

Yeah, its about time we got to see the real Cloud being 'normal' and unencumbered with emotional baggage.

Also, I wonder if Veld will be making an appearance?

I think that's the point :awesome: Rufus had a line in OTWTAS Episode Shinra that was basically saying the whole 'Meteor memorial' was a placeholder for the new Shinra Building. I think everything Rufus does is for Rufus' sake.

I don't agree with that (the things he says to Kadaj just before he goes gangster on him in AC/C must have been sincere), but I don't entirely disagree either. I think he genuinely feels he needs to repay the world, but still wants to be someone important.

Exactly, so why the Turks still go along with it is a mystery. Lets not forget that given what we learn in Before Crisis, Rufus had the Turks over a barrel regarding Veld. Now he doesn't exert that power over them, why are they still taking his orders? If they honestly think he has any intentions that arent just self serving, then that makes them idiots, and I don't want them to be idiots.

At the end of FFVII Reno says 'Shinra's finished' and he was right. Whether Rufus is alive or not makes no difference.

I think I need to rewatch ACC then :awesome: I kind of feel, in my not-very-well-formed opinion, that any societal benefit his actions might cause are second to the personal benefit to himself.

But I've not given this much thought :monster:
