Bumping for huge justice!

Where the fuck is my Dance with Dragons? I'm needing my Arya fix, badly. I think GRRM is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now, finally - I'm hoping we'll get it early 2010. I only read the series for the first time about 2 years ago (thanks Aaron), so I haven't been waiting as long as some - but FUCK ME I NEED DWD. On my 3rd readthrough now, halfway through CoK, and still noticing stuff I've missed before. :monster:

What's everyone think of the HBO pilot cast so far? Fucking awesome imho.

I'm during my second readthrough, at the second book right now (almost at the end). I noticed that somehow the second doesn't seem to contain as much 'story' as the first one - some parts are pretty much endless conversations between the characters (albeit good ones, especially when it's Tyrion vs. Cersei, :monster: ). But maybe that's just me.

And that next book is taking far too long for him to finish. I'm afraid he'll drop dead before being able to finish the series, really.

Looking forward to the HBO pilot, and I do hope they'll make it good, and turn it into a series.

Also, Aaron also got me into this, :monster:. I think it was from his favorite books list back on FFR, which probably puts it at the same time I got into Moonsorrow, which is also made of win :monster:.

The cast lists thus far have me very, very encouraged. Here's hoping it's as awesome as I'm expecting it to be.

And yeah I'm getting increasingly afraid Martin's going to suffer the same fate as Jordan :(

From what I've gathered, it looks like DwD is the hardest of the series to write as it's right in the middle where all the plot threads are coming together. You've got Tyrion, Quentyn Martell and Victarion all converging on Dany (in Mereen - George has referred to it as the 'Mereenese Knot' which has given him loads of trouble) plus Bran's emerging powers, Jon and Stannis at the Wall, the events in Dorne....

I think that when DwD is finalised, he'll have a much better idea of the story's route.

If he dies, I'm doing a Beric on him. Zombie George!

Yeah, that would make sense. Hopefully the last two don't take five years to write each :(

Except that I wasn't bothered much by Jordan - his book series bored me a few books in, seeing they were the same formula repeated over and over again, same as most fantasy novels. There's only so much 'Fellowship visits inn, Fellowship gets in trouble, Fellowship pwns nubs, Fellowship moves on, Fellowship makes camp, repeat at infinitum until Fellowship reaches Final Level, Main Hero's power level increases to over nine THOUSAAND and defeats Current Book's Final Boss' I can take, :monster:. 'Course, that doesn't undo the influence and popularity of Jordan's books.

And I really wouldn't want his next book to be the 'peak' of the series - save that for last, kthxplz, else we'll be reading his last two books like the last chapters of LotR - some extra added plot that seems to drag on for far too long. At least, that was my opinion of it during my first readthrough of that one.

Hmmm, I don't mean it'll be the 'peak' as in the climax of the story - obviously that should be at the end, along with I hope some mind-blowing revelations, betrayal, death, and hawtsexkcs (twincest optional). What I meant was, this mid-late stage in the series is where there's a fuckload of story threads all just starting to come together. Lots of details to keep on top of. Towards the end the path should be more clear, if that makes any sense.

You know what, I just want to see Bran ride a dragon and pwn n00bz.

LMAO.

But yes, the cast for the pilot makes me drool. I'm really expecting a lot from some of the youngest actors, so I really hope that they'll deliver XD

As for the book, yup; in an European convention he said he hoped to finish it this Fall, making it available for us early 2010. I'm just touching wood at this point XD

As for why this book took so long to write... yes, I'm guessing that's because he has a lot of things to take care of, while the kids are not exactly grown up yet, which might complicate the writing - he said he had a hard time writing kids, especially the youngest ones.

He's been saying he hoped to have it finished by the end of the year for like three years. I've learnt to take his word on when the book will be finished as seriously as Wintersun's word on when their next album will be finished, which will mean nothing for those of you who aren't metal fans. Hopefully this time he's actually right though.

Eerie

Fire and Blood
Yeah but lately, he didn't say anything, so it was surprising that he'd say such a thing at a con xD

Anyway, I do think that he advanced it more than a bit, he seemed very pleased with his writing last he talked about it.

wewt, all of the cast (with pics!) is now known.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0944947/

and

http://grrm.livejournal.com/

We've got Fred Flinstone as Robert, Boromir as Ned, a protestant boy raeper as Sandor, some guy from the fail Stargate Atlantis as Khal Drogo, Sarah Connor as Cersei, motherfucking Baron Harkonnen as Ilyrio, etc.

I like and approve. Let us make love to celebrate.

They're shooting the pilot right now, according to Martin's blog, they just finished shooting in Scotland and will move on to Ireland. Martin himself arrived in Belfast a couple of days ago, to be precise.

I'm just going to say it's gonna suck to keep from getting hopeful.

It's HBO, so I don't really expect it to suck. But yeah, I'm refraining from getting my hopes too high.

We'll see in the pilot. I do hope it'll do the book justice though, and not skip through things at a speed of over nine thousaand. Of course, they can skip some non-essential dialog (as they'd take hours to play out), but only if they're not really important. asdf.

Eerie

Fire and Blood
It's the pilot, so it should only be the first chapters me think - if it works, they'll rework it into ep01 and the rest of the season should follow, so that means they definitely can't cover everything.

I can't remember, I think it's 10 eps per season if this goes live?

It had better be the full 24 and then some, Or Else. There's plenty of material to fill a proper season with, after all.

That, or the episodes should all be an hour and a half long.

Eerie

Fire and Blood
Heh, unlikely; it's bound to be an expensive budget per episode - beside, most HBO series have 10/12 eps/season. I mean, look at Rome or True Blood :)

Haven't seen either yet, sadly :monster:. The HBO series I did see though was Band of Brothers, and it was win (even though it was pretty much Saving Private Ryan, but longer).

Eerie

Fire and Blood
Rome and True Blood are win too XD I think though that Martin said somewhere in his blog that if it went well, the contract was 10 ep per season, and one of those would be written by him. :)

Fuck yeah. Though, given how much HBO execs had been reported to love the series already, this was pretty much a given. Now let's hope George hurries up and finishes the damn books so they can roll out the last three series on time.

Also I think it was more something like sixteen episodes per season, but I could be mistaken.

Eerie

Fire and Blood
Nah, HBO's seasons are never that long XD

And yeah, Martin still hasn't finished ADwD, but somehow, I feel that he's much closer to the end now. Hopefully will hit the market late this year or the very beginning of next year XD

...

There will STILL be 2 books after that though XD

I'm more and more convinced the guy will keel over and die before finishing the books, especially now this is given the green light. Not only that, but I wonder what the influence of translating the series to moving picture will have on the final parts.
