Official Final Fantasy VII PC Re-release Site Launches
by Lex July 4, 2012 0 commentsThe previously expected Final Fantasy VII PC-Release site has now officially opened, confirming suspicions. The site can be found here, and contains HD wallpapers of the original character designs, as well as a new trailer:
Interestingly, the Youtube video description contains a note – “Optimized for PC — Play FINAL FANTASY VII on the latest hardware”. Although it seems this is not a remake, as previously mentioned the current PC release contains midi versions of the original music and poor quality backgrounds, so at least some level of upgrade can be expected. If the trailer is anything to go by, at least the original PS music will be intact. The site itself contains a short story summary and new character profiles for each main character, as well as Sephiroth. The “disc change” images are also available to view in their original resolution.
The site mentions new online features such as 36 new Achievements, a Character Booster and Cloud Saves. The minimum system requirements are listed as:
- Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7 (32/64-bit)
- 2GHz Processor or faster
- 1GB RAM
- DirectX 9-compatible graphic card
This is interesting, as the previous PC release had the following in comparison:
- Microsoft Windows 95
- 133 MHz with 3D accelerator card; 166 MHz without 3D accelerator card
- 32MB RAM
- DirectX 5.0 compatible
There is no mention of a release date, the site specifying only “coming soon”.

Well, at least it’s something! The higher-resolution cutscenes are cool, I guess. I hope they update the textures in-game, though. It’s 2012, no one’s going to buy a game with blurry background textures, no matter how big of a fan they are.
I think, graphically, it will be the same exact game, no HD remake or anything. Maybe they just used superior technology to improve the quality of the port, instead of the very limiting tech they had the first time around
Exactly, the backgrounds sorely need done. I would laugh very hard if they released the original MIDI.
I hate the fact that you can “Character Boost”! A real RPG fan & for that matter a real FF7 would spend the time to level up the characters, not just spend the money to get more HP,MP, & Gil.
A character boost? Thats a terrible idea. The love the rest though. If they can just make clouds hair less blocky then im happy! lol
