Game Theory: Why Final Fantasy is Anti-Religion (via Youtube)

Final Fantasy games feature a lot of religious symbolism. But if you look closely, those references to religion actually form a very interesting pattern; the Final Fantasy games are actually against organized religion…and even the concept of God himself. So today, we’re looking at the Final Fantasy series, including Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy X, and Final Fantasy Legend to see just how this popular series deals with religious issues.

What happened when the Super Fan met the Super Composer

Towards the end of last year, Square Enix held a contest to determine the first Final Fantasy Super Fan, described as “a fan unlike any other, who goes beyond the call of fandom with an unequivocal commitment to all things Final Fantasy”. Part of the prize for the winner was a trip to Paris to see a Distant Worlds concert and meet Nobuo Uematsu. Here’s what happened in the words of the winner himself, Randis Albion:

Square Enix introduced me to the composer Nobuo Uematsu in Paris after the Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concert. I had the chance to shake hands and express my appreciation and to present him with a gift, a canvas print of a painting of himself, painted by myself.

We think the painting is really something special. Good work, Randis! (hat-tip: Shademp)

Introducing The Geomancer, One of Final Fantasy XI: Seekers Of Adoulin’s New Jobs (via Siliconera)

The Geomancer job is leaving Final Fantasy V and coming to Final Fantasy XI as part of the Seekers of Adoulin expansion pack. Gemonacers use Geomancy to buff party members and debilitate monsters. Geomancers have two kinds of geomancy magic. Indicolure spells are magical auras that affect party members and enemies nearby. Geocolure spells can only be used when a character’s main class is set as Geomancer. Geomancers have to place a Luopan which emanates a field that acts as the center of a Geocolure spell.
