In this week’s roundup: Square Enix reveal the games they’ll be showcasing at next week’s E3; Amazon stops listing Versus XIII for direct sale; Final Fantasy VII’s legacy criticised in a retrospective; plus lots from our forum.
Square Enix’s E3 2013 Booth Lineup Revealed (via Explosion)
Square Enix has revealed today all the games that they’re going to show at this year’s E3, being held in a few days:
- Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5 Remix- (PS3)
- Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (PC, PS3)
- Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360)
- Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (PS Vita, PS3)
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut (Wii U)
- Thief (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
As you can seen from the list, there aren’t going be many surprises: all these games have been revealed a few months ago. One good thing is that all of them will be present in playable form, with the exception of the next-gen new Thief game. Final Fantasy fans, however, will definitely be happy to know more details on some upcoming games: players will finally be able to get a first taste for the upcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and for the first Final Fantasy HD collection to get released, which will include Final Fantasy X and its direct sequel Final Fantasy X-2.
Have your say: what are you looking forward to at this year’s E3?
Amazon no longer stocking Final Fantasy 13 Versus, suggests re-brand (via VG 24/7)
Final Fantasy 13 Versus is no longer listed as being sold by Amazon directly, suggesting that the retailer has either stopped listing the product for sale, or that it no longer exists in its current form. Discovered by NeoGAF, the game’s product page on Amazon US and Amazon Japan only has third-party sellers listed as stockists, suggesting that the company itself will not be stocking the game. Amazon had listed itself as a stockist of the game previously.
The change follows rumours that Final Fantasy 13 Versus has been re-branded as ‘Final Fantasy 15′ and will be re-revealed at E3 next week.
Have your say: will Versus XIII ever see the light of day?
Final Fantasy 7 retrospective (via Eurogamer)
Final Fantasy 7 has never been loved for the right reasons; conversations focus overwhelmingly on a single moment that in its grand scheme felt largely irrelevant. I’m referring, of course, to the death of Aeris, the sweet flower girl who joins your party in the game’s early portion and then, at the end of the first of three discs, is killed by arch-baddy Sephiroth.
It is a powerful scene, to be sure, and the wide range of response shows it clearly affected a lot of players deeply. Or did it? There’s a certain bandwagon-jumping quality to accounts of Aeris dying, almost as if people want to reassure themselves that games can inspire emotional reactions.
Have your say: what did you think when you first played Final Fantasy VII?
