Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age coming 2017
by Tetsujin June 6, 2016 0 commentsIt has been rumored for some time and Arnie Roth – conductor of the Distant Worlds concert series – let it accidentally slip but now it’s official: The Final Fantasy XII HD remaster has just been announced under the title “The Zodiac Age”.
It will be available on PlayStation 4 next year.
The Zodiac Age is based on the Japan-exclusive FFXII International Zodiac Job System version which features a revamped license board (the titular Zodiac Job System) as well as tweaks to the battle system like controllable Espers and guests, a turbo mode and other changes.
Famitsu shared some details about the HD version changes:
– backgrounds, character models, fonts and 2d assets are going to be in higher resolution
– FMVs will be upscaled using the latest graphical techniques
– features 7.1 surround sound
– high quality audio for the voices
– will include japanese and english voices (changable in-game via the config menu)
– will include both the original soundtrack as well as a newly recorded soundtrack (can also be changed in-game)
– decreased loading times
– autosave feature
– improvements to turbo mode
– various other improvements to make the character growth system more enjoyable

I never thought Final Fantasy XII would get a remaster. Once again, I was proven wrong. Looks good though. Next year will mark ten years since the FFXII Zodiac International Release was, well, released after the original release.
