More Dissidia Info on Gabranth and Vaan

by November 19, 2010 0 comments

Higher resolution scans of the four new outfits seen for Dissidia 012 have revealed more information on the four characters in question, particularly Gabranth and Vaan.

Gabranth’s “Basch” outfit does not change his appearance in EX Mode it seems, though he likely still takes on a glowing aura as all characters do. He can be seen using a new attack in the scans, sending pillars of fire along the ground. Vaan’s fighting style, where he combines different weapons, has two “forms” of his Brave attacks – a shift form used when he switches weapons, and a weaker form he uses when he already has the weapon for the attack equipped. This means Vaan’s attacks gain power when he quickly switches weapons while attacking. This is a contrast to Firion, who switches weapons in the middle of attacking, while Vaan switches weapons just prior to attacking. His HP attacks leave him bare-handed as he uses techniques based on the Concurrences performed at the end of Quickening Cains.

In other news, Kefka has apparently undergone a shift to his moveset, similar to Firion but not to the same degree. There’s no information yet on precisely how his moveset has changed.

There is also new info on the Assist and EX Mode systems, which directly oppose each other in gameplay. Using an Assist attack against an enemy who is in EX Mode triggers “EX Break”, which depletes their EX Gauge to zero essentially canceling their EX Mode. On the other hand, if a character in EX Mode attacks an Assist character when they appear, they trigger “Assist Break” which locks the opponent’s EX Gauge. Mention is made of an “EX Bonus” that is gained when performing either of these two counterattacks – it is currently unknown what this means, but it could refer to a ‘pool’ of EX Force similar to the Brave pool.

Thanks to the good people at ChaoticCosmos on Livejournal for the translations.

I’m too confused. And why the Basch costume for Gabranth if Basch isn’t in the game? If you really wanna go there, Cloud needs a Zack costume, Tifa needs an Aeris/Aerith costume, and an Auron costume for Jecht would be pretty sweet(if Auron doesn’t make it in. Also Warrior of Light, a NInja or Monk costume. And a Fang costume for Lightning or make it a Serah costume. Hell, Let’s make Onion Knight’s costume Sora! I’m officially insane. I’m sorry lifestream…

Hasn’t anyone noticed it’s not actually “basch” as a costume but gabranth’s disguise from the start of ffxii? So it’s still gabranth, not basch, if it were basch he’d be wearing different clothes and have that scar on his brow.

I wonder if this Basch disguise will have more importance than just a 3rd outfit for Gabranth? He could actually go up to Vaan and fool him into thinking that he is indeed Basch and then attack him while his gaurd’s down, alluding to what happened to Reks. (Maybe I’m reading too much into this)

Actually, Gabranth could fool a lot of people into thinking that he’s a Cosmos warrior if he’s in his Basch disguise and if someone like Vaan who knows Basch backs him up, it gives him all the more cover. Certainly it sounds like something the villains would take advantage of; from the trailer it seems as though there will be a mysterious warrior of cosmos/cosmos traitor subplot so Gabranth could be involved in that. And along the way he could sympathise with the heroes or have a change of heart, causing him to atone (or stray from Chaos at least) and become hell’s watchdog. Again this is just speculation.

Nice outfits all the same, thanks for the update.

Yes, there would be a scar. Plus they’re twins.
