Let’s Play! Final Fantasy VII part the sixth

by November 1, 2011 0 comments

It’s been awhile folks. Over half a year. But Pixel finally found time in his busy schedule of making our audiobooks to play a bit more Final Fantasy 7.

This time, I, Ryushikaze, am joined by forum regulars Satsu, Tifabelle, Celes, and Tennyo as we head out of Costa Del Sol and get ourselves involved in the sordid world of Bird racing, gambling, moogle breeding programs, bloodsport, chintzy unreliable fortune tellers, and worse, a man without any pants on. Yes, we’re headed to Gold Saucer.

The rest of the videos, as always, are after the break.

About the Highwind High Affection scene, I checked the game code via Makou Reactor. It confirms that in order for the HA version to happen, Tifa needs to have at least 50 Love Points. No other variables are important in deciding which scene happens.

Technical detail: Though the field makes an initial check for how many love points Tifa has, this calculation then decides the value of a completely different flag which in turn decides which dialogue Tifa and Cloud will choose. It may be that people have mistaken this variable as a sign of some other factor being involved in triggering the scene, but this is not the case. All that matters are THE LOVE POINTS. =)

I knew the Love Points were vital, I just wasn’t sure if there was anything else that might factor in, since Tifa does have that one floating value that doesn’t seem to do much of anything.

You are probably thinking about the unused “Battle Affection Value”, which seemingly Barret, Tifa, Aeris and Yuffie have.

Search “MISC. NOTES AND BUGS”. I hope I can mess around with this value someday, to see for myself if it *truly* is unused.

Afraid that past that point there is nothing you can do. Unless of course you skipped Fort Condor (which I don’t remember if you did), where talking to the old man and agreeing to listen to him and help him will net more love points to all four characters. Completing the Wutai sidequest, which I reckon you might have already done, nets Yuffie +10 Love Points.

Anyway, past the Gold Saucer Date the only place where LP will have any real impact is in the Highwind scene at the end of disc 2.

You *can*, but I haven’t listed all the dialogue options you’ve picked in your playthrough so I don’t know if you’ve gained enough LP for Tifa. As far as the date goes, the game simply checks which character has the most Love/Affection Points. So having the date with Aeris/Aerith is not a death sentence, because Tifa may still have +50 love points.
