Let’s Play! Final Fantasy VII Part the Fourth

by February 1, 2011 0 comments

If the all the new info on Dissidia is making your head spin or you’re just too antsy for its release, take your mind off with another installment of Pixel’s FF7 Let’s Play!

This time, Tennyo, myself- Ryushikaze- and newcomer Jocalyn provide our voices and our thoughts, but mostly just our voices, to the escape from the  ShinRa building and the Nibelheim flashback.

As always, the remaining videos are after the break.

If you’d like to join me or Pixel in a later commentary, feel free to contact us via the forums.

Ah, the atomic scissors fail. I’ve been there way too many times… (I keep forgetting that it’s way more effective to remove a higher level attack rating in exchange for a weapon that can actually hit the boss…)

I always thought that Dark Nation was something Hojo made based off of Red XIII’s data. They have similar enough feline/canine characteristics only Dark Nation’s been mako’d and lobotomised by the Science Dept so as to be a useful gaurd dog thing for Rufus. Though maybe the time frame doesn’t quite work out… But it could be that the FFVII development team recycled it’s design based from the original Red XIII subplot with the two other Reds (or whatever they were) and kept it around as part of a mini-boss.

Did anyone else ever think that Cloud’s mother bore a strange resemblance to Aerith? She has a similar personality, they look a little alike (well similar hairstyles at least) and both make a habit of nagging Cloud. I’m not suggesting that they’re related but rather that the affinity is what makes Cloud connect with Aerith so well since Zack probably didn’t directly mention her to him. Aaargh, now I’m just starting up an epilectic tree theory… Sorry.

Love the comments on the Hojo paternity thing; how Sephiroth managed to inherit so many of Lucrecia’s physical traits is probably a miracle of Jenova. Then again a lot of FF guys (Cecil, Cloud, Squall, Tidus etc) manage to inherit 80% of their appearence from their mothers. Maybe FF just has very recessive Y chromosones? Though I always wondered, shouldn’t Sephiroth have genetically been a brown eyed brunette? I’m guessing Jenova was responsible for that: ‘Silver hair is so much prettier, my memetic succesor must be a bishonen to conquer all bishonen!’

Great job everyone. *applauds* Eagerly awating the next one. Though why you keep mentioning a game that doesn’t exist is beyond me… How do you even know it exists if it doesn’t and yet you do and I get motion sickness and that picture proves that !!!!!—-
    …must…follow Sephiroth…. Reunion…. Great….Sephiroth…

First of all, I’d like to say that this stuff is extremely entertaining. I’ve never played the game myself, but hey, this way I don’t feel like I’m missing out on too much.
Second (and forgive me if someone else has already informed you of this…I’m just trying to be helpful), in part 19 at about 7:45 one of the girls comments on Sephiroth putting his sword in upside down. It’s actually quite usual for katanas to be sheathed blade-up, in part because of the curve of the blade. When drawing a katana, you reach across and actually twist the entire sheath to the side, turning the blade edge outwards. Then, aided by the sword’s natural curve, you can draw the sword and slice through an enemy in a single smooth, semi-circular horizontal motion.
And now you may take that knowledge and show off to people with it. I hope you didn’t mind my technical blabbering…
    Looking forward to more,
    Oreramar

Repeating my YouTube comment for Part 19:
“You can’t go to the other side of the Mythril Mines before Cloud has had his flashback in Kalm. When you enter Mythril Mines and attempt to walk through it, the party members will intervene and say “Hey, this is not the way to Kalm! Go back!” and you can’t go any further in the mines.”

Yeah, I misspoke, in part- I meant the other side of the marsh to the mines. I recall being stymied from heading to Junon and being rather miffed.

Just wanted to comment here that I’m loving the Let’s Play videos, for several reasons.

    1) It’s great to hear other peoples comments on the game as it plays, and not after the fact on the forums or something. I used to play Final Fantasy games with a friend of mine and it was always great fun reading the text and poking fun at the characters. But he moved away and I haven’t got to do that in a long time, and watching these videos brings back a lot of those fond memories!

    2) It’s awesome to just WATCH the game and not have to hold your breath every time you need to run a long distance, because you just know that random battle is coming. So it’s great to just watch the cutscenes and wander through the areas as it plays out, worry-free.

Keep up the great work, I’m really looking forward to watching the rest of the game with you guys!
