I wouldn’t be surprised if ‘Who goes there?’ dated from when this was still in the game.
The thought crossed my mind as well, but there is no screenshot from that part of development where the guards say “Who goes there?”. In that screenshot Cloud is saying that they have to avoid being spotted by the guards (or something like that, I don’t remember GlitterBerri’s exact translation) which makes me question whether the soldiers in that pic are actually AVALANCHE in disguise. Anyway, because of the lack of further info I chose not to involve the aforementioned screenshot.
Very cool stuff here. Thanks for putting this together. 🙂
Really great stuff! Very in depth and very interesting. Gives a real insight into how they shaped the game as they went along.
This is excellent, great job guys. Even after nearly 15 years, FFVII is still throwing out new surprises. Can’t wait till the next instalment.
This is one of the most interesting articles we’ve had on the site yet — and I say that as someone who has put together some of our best!
… It’s not being cocky if it’s true!
But, really, this is great. Thanks so much for sharing this and for all your hard work. It’s truly impressive and this is a lot of fun to read. I can’t wait for the next installment.

You guys are doing an amazing service for us fans of FFVII. Seriously, hats off to you. I agree with Limey89; I’m still stunned to see that after all these years, we’re still discovering more and more hidden in the game. It makes me wonder why they dummied so much of this out–especially the bits with Jessie, which really would have given us better insight into her character.
Anyway, it’s heartening to know this stuff is finally seeing the light of day. Keep up the great work.
