No, This Final Fantasy Character Didn’t Say “F**kball” (via Kotaku)

Well, I don’t think he did. This new trailer for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is a little over two minutes. But the last several seconds are what might raise eyebrows. Skip to around 1:50 to see, er, hear what I’m talking about.

While it sounds like Sazh is saying “blasted fuckball,” I believe he’s actually saying “blasted fluffball” or “blasted fuzzball.” But, “blasted fuckball” sure is difficult to unhear.P

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be out this November in Japan. It’ll be out next February in the West, blasted fuckballs, I mean fluffballs, and all.

Square Enix Shuts Down Final Fantasy VII Figures From Shapeways (via WebProNews)

The Shapeways business model is smart one in that it gives people who may normally have it access to 3D printing technology. It also allows these creative types a showcase to sell these creations, essentially positioning itself as something of an Etsy for those who like to create in three dimensions.

What we have is someone who clearly enjoyed Square’s smash hit Final Fantasy VII; so much so, in fact, the Shapeways user decided to create, and sell, his own line of figures from the game that were designed to look like their polygon model counterparts.

Needless to say, once Square Enix found out, they unleashed their lawyers, who were armed with takedown requests.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Beta Impressions (via Just Push Start)

XIV Hyur Male

After getting through the annoying login problems, I perked up pretty quickly once the opening cutscenes started. As a fan of strong story based games, which the Final Fantasy franchise has long been a master of, I really enjoyed seeing the backstory from the initial Final Fantasy XIV game and how it sets up what is going on in this game. The graphics in the cutscenes are absolutely gorgeous, which is to be expected in a Final Fantasy game.

The combat is very simple to learn and becomes very fun as you continue through the game. Teaming up with another player to take down a beast with a much higher level is very satisfying.

I very much enjoyed my time playing the beta for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. I have not played an abundance of MMO’s, with DC Universe Online and The Old Republic being the only two I’ve played a significant amount, but this game really kept me interested the entire time I was playing the beta. There is no doubt this is a Final Fantasy game with the character designs, classes, and a strong storyline to accompany them.

Wasn’t the models riped from the PC game? The weird mouth in Wedge, Biggs, Jessie, Tseng, etc is from that!

The way I see it, nowadays Square only cracks down on their IP (brand names, designs, etc) when someone’s trying to make money off of it. Creating 3D figurines of their characters in itself is fine; earning money off of them isn’t. They’d come after us if we offered things like translations for a price, too.
