Speculation: VII Remake news coming January 31st 2017

by December 19, 2016 0 comments

Square-Enix recently announced plans for Final Fantasy’s 30th Anniversary, with a kickoff event on January 31st 2017.

2017 is a significant year for Final Fantasy VII in particular, as it marks the original game’s 20th anniversary. Nomura had the following to say to Famitsu a short time ago:

Interviewer: 2017 is also the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy VII.

Nomura: Like with the 15th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts, I’m thinking I’d like to plan something or other. It’s just that, since we’ve been keeping busy with productions, including the game World of Final Fantasy that I showcased today, I don’t think I will be able to share any new news until after things calm down.

Final Fantasy VII was first released in Japan on January 31st 1997. This event is being held on January 31st 2017, which is the game’s 20th anniversary. Nomura was quoted earlier this year stating that he’d like to “do something” for VII’s 20th anniversary. These dots are connecting quite nicely, aren’t they?

We hope you’re as hyped as the rest of us for some overdue news!

I don’t think Nomura will be able to share anything related to the Remake, but maybe some more merchandise of both the Original game, Remake and the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII? I mean, they re-released Advent Children Complete(still the same movie on BluRay, just a different cover like almost every other re-releases of films these days) just in the last month or two, Dirge of Cerberus came out ten years ago. Maybe they’ll change their minds and port Crisis Core up to PS4 since 2017 is also the tenth anniversary of the PSP release in Japan. Most likely not and they definately won’t remake Before Crisis or continue the Compilation with a new sequel set after the Secret Ending of Dirge(as much as I want them to) but I think the merchandise is more likely than not.

I can’t see the first part of the Remake coming out next year, and definately(at least I’m hoping) not before Kingdom Hearts 3 is released, but who knows. I could be wrong like how I was wrong about them not doing a Remake of the original game.

I know this is going to be “Oh god, she’s at it again”, but my biggest concern is the fate of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII and what will Nomura will say about this on the 31st of next month. IF he says anything about it. Because if he continues to leave us in the dark about the franchise and just talk about the Remake, I’m gonna go even more nuts than ever since I REALLY want to know if it’s going to continue or if it’s discontinued.

Square Enix not saying about about it for the last ten years and leaving us in the dark is enough to make us reach our breaking point. They haven’t even said whether they changed their minds on making future FFVII titles of the storyline or not.

Sorry for the late reply, but no, the event wasn’t live streamed, unfortunately.
