Theatrhythm latest Final Fantasy game to go mobile

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Now Available For Free On iOS (via Nintendo Life)
Earlier this week Square Enix teased the world with a website showing a couple of symbols from the popular Theatrhythm Final Fantasy on 3DS. Was it teasing a sequel? A new Theatrhythm for a different series? Nope, it was just an iOS port.
That iOS port is available right now and can be downloaded free of charge, however there’s a catch: the game only comes with two tracks, One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy VII and Zanarkand from Final Fantasy X. As you may have guessed you’ll need to fork out some cash if you want some more songs: if you purchased all bundles, songs and characters you’d be down $143.03 (roughly £89 / €109) – ouch.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s Alpha Crafting Video Streamed (via Anime News Network)
Square Enix began streaming a five-and-a-half-minute gameplay video on Wednesday for the alpha version of its updated massive multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG) Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The video introduces gathering and crafting professions to players. In the video, the character Jadeite Thicke uses skills to locate flora and harvest useful supplies before crafting a new weapon in town.
Square Enix announced in September that alpha testing will begin this winter, and Square Enix is still recruiting testers on Windows PCs.

It turns out that a game that involves butchering thousands of monsters isn’t a very fun place to think about death, and players around the world freaked out, convinced that there was some way to save Aeris. Over the next few months and years, message boards and forums filled with ridiculously lengthy and complicated methods of getting Aeris back.
How gullible would you have to be to buy it? All the way gullible. Keep in mind that we are talking about trying to restore a character whose death is completely central to every remaining plot point and character development in the game. (And Final Fantasy VII is a very linear game.) Aeris is as fundamentally and completely dead as the narrative can make her.

Yay, I got a hat-tip!
I downloaded the iOS release of Theatrhythm and did a very, very brief review on the forums; major negative points are for performance (slow loading times, reported lag during, for example, incoming text messages – and I have the fastest iOS device out there at the moment), although the game itself doesn’t seem to have a problem with rendering / framerate or anything.
Second, even though it’s a free game, what you get ‘out of the box’ is very, very minimal; two playable songs, each with three difficulty levels. They’ll entertain you for half an hour tops, after which you’d have to buy more songs, as mentioned in the article. But then, I’m generally not a fan of in-game purchases.
So does it cost that much money for everything because there are a ton of songs and characters? Or just because they’re unbelievably overpriced?
