Square Enix’s New President Plans To Review The Entire Company (via Siliconera)
After the announcement of Square Enix’s net income loss of 13 billion yen, it was announced that Yosuke Matsuda will be replacing Yoichi Wada as the president of the company. Since then, there’s been many questions about what this means for Square Enix and what will become of Yoichi Wada. In a recent Square Enix Holdings briefing session, the to-be president, Yosuke Matsuda, talked about his plans for the company:
“After having succeeded the important role as the president, I plan on reviewing all Square Enix duties, business and assets on a zero-based budgeting standpoint. Due to the radical change of environment, I’d like to fundamentally review what works and what doesn’t work for our company, then cast all of our resources towards extending what makes us successful and thoroughly squeezing out what doesn’t.”

Final Fantasy 5 out now on iOS, priced $15.99 (via Joystiq)
Not that its impending arrival was much of a secret, but Final Fantasy V arrived on the App Store today and is available now for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad devices for $15.99.
As this trailer neatly shows, this version is based on the 2006 Game Boy Advance release, and so includes the additional Sealed Temple dungeon and optional Enuo boss. It also features new character designs and graphical tweaks, courtesy of veteran FF sprite artist Kazuko Shibuya.
An Android version comes to Japan this summer. Going by recent history, that indicates it’ll arrive in western territories around the same time.

‘Evoland’ is a playable history of gaming, from 8-bit to HD (via The Verge)
When you first start playing Evoland, it doesn’t look all that impressive. The pixelated visuals are lacking in color, and there isn’t even any sound — it’s like an original GameBoy game blown up to the size of your monitor. But as you play, you’ll not only unlock new items and abilities like in most games, but also new features that bring Evoland closer to the present. Essentially you’re playing through the modern history of games, going from an 8-bit black-and-white world all the way to detailed 3D — you’ll even have to unlock modern conveniences like the ability to save.
The game doesn’t cover the entirety of gaming history, but instead focuses on just a few types of experiences, mostly role playing games. You’ll find elements pulled from series like Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda, and even a bit of Diablo. This means that not only does the look and feel of the game change as you progress, but the gameplay changes as well.
